Banyan Street Partners is an investment firm focused investing in MicroCap companies on a global basis. The firm seeks to compound our own capital as well as our investor’s capital at attractive rates of return over long periods of time by investing in high-quality, predictable businesses and holding them for many years.

Name Inspiration

The banyan tree is indigenous to India and is distinctive for its unusual root growth. The tree’s roots proliferate and appear to descend from its branches towards the ground. As the proliferation of trunks continues over time, new major trunks develop alongside the original trunks, which creates a large canopy providing shade from the sun.

The name banyan is derived from the Hindu word traders (banyans) who traded their products under the canopy of these trees. As a result, the banyan tree is considered by some to be the tree of commerce.

The banyan tree serves as an excellent symbol for the investment philosophy at Banyan Street Partners. The proliferation of adjacent trunks symbolizes the addition of like-minded partners, which strengthens the foundation and increases the size of the canopy. Much as the canopy provides shade from the sun for merchants, it provides Banyan Street and its partners shade from the noise and myopic short-term focus of the crowd.
